WHAT IS TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE (TCM)?

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a complete medical system that has been practiced over 3,000 years to diagnose, treat and prevent illness.

In TCM philosophy, the human body is thought of as a miniature cosmos in which components maintain a dynamic balance with one another. A life force runs through the body to keep it alive and functioning properly. When the life force energy, Qi (pronounced chi) is stagnant or depleted, an imbalance occurs and leads to illnesses.

A TCM practitioner assesses a person's health by asking certain questions, observing specific appearances, examining the tongue, and palpating the pulse. The information collected is then interpreted in the context of the person's present and past complaints, work and living habits, physical environments, and emotional state.

The goal of TCM treatment is to regulate and harmonize the energy in the body to assist or activate the innate self-healing ability. Treatment may include acupuncture, herbal remedies, heat therapy, diet adjustment and exercise.

WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?

Today in the U.S. acupuncture is considered a new form of alternative healthcare. In reality acupuncture is one of the oldest medical systems practiced in human history. Very simply described, acupuncture is the insertion of hair-thin needles into points along the energy pathways to influence physiological function of the body.

WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT LIKE?

Generally, one session of acupuncture treatment runs from 40 to 50 minutes. About 5 to 15 needles are used on different part of the body depending on the complaints. Insertion of the needles is unnoticed by some and like a small pinch by others. Patient may experience sensations of tingling, numbness, soreness, warmth, cooling or heaviness. Needles are retained in place for about 30 minutes. Most people find it very relaxing during treatment and rejuvenating after treatment.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

It depends on the duration, severity, and nature of your complaint. You may need only one single treatment for an acute condition. For many chronic problems, a series of 5 to 10 treatments is recommended in order to see good results.  Some degenerative conditions require many treatments over time.

ARE THE NEEDLES CLEAN?
,
Absolutely. Only sterilized disposable needles are used for all our acupuncture services.

WHAT ABOUT HERBAL THERAPY?

Herbs are a healing source from nature when used properly. Chinese herbal remedy is tailor-designed for each individual based on his or her condition. It treats both symptoms as well as the problem at its root. Proper usage of Chinese herbs rarely causes any side effect.

Please note that in the state of Ohio, TCM herbal remidies cannot be prescribed and as such each patient is wholly responsible for what they ingest, we cannot and will not prescribe any herbal medication, nor make any suggestions as to suitable herbal medication for any ailment.
